About Wasatch Lusitanos

Wasatch Lusitanos breeds purebred Puro Sangue Lusitano (PSL) horses, all registered with APSL (Associação Portuguesa de Criadores do Cavalo Puro Sangue Lusitano). Based in Petersburg, Tennessee, our program is built for riders aiming at Dressage and Working Equitation.

Breeding philosophy

We breed for three constants: temperament, functional athleticism, and durability. The farm is organized like leading Portuguese breeding operations—young horses are raised in the field in well-matched groups and come into the barn at age 3 to begin formal training. Our training approach follows long-established Lusitano methods from Portugal and emphasizes clarity, relaxation, and progressive development at each horse’s pace.

Raising & development

Day-to-day management is anchored in comprehensive care: scheduled preventive care—vaccinations and deworming (a minimum of four times per year)—and consistent hoof care on a regular farrier cycle. Forage-first nutrition, generous turnout, and steady, respectful handling support sound bodies and confident minds.

Bloodlines & foundation stock

Our foundation horses carry acclaimed APSL bloodlines, including Nilo MV, Distinto MAC, Larapio MAC, Ofensor MV, Pioniero MAC, Riopele SSC, Violino SS, Altivo SQT, Almansor SS, and Impar II SS. We prioritize mares with correctness, reach, and a steady, people-oriented character, and select stallions for proven performance, mechanics, and rideability.

Disciplines

Our program centers on Dressage and Working Equitation, producing rideable, confident partners with the scope to progress in sport and the minds riders trust.
